To safely remove the anti-friction rings please see below:

1. Insert a plastic pry tool as shown in the left image below, and push the latch inward toward the center of the friction ring to release it from the mating surface.
2. As shown in the right image below, gently push the friction ring toward the front side of the top housing using the pry tool, then remove the friction ring.
